Breaking Down Barriers To Protect Private Property in Ontario
For over four years, Pathway professionals have helped a client showcase their security services to protect commercial, industrial and institutional properties from theft and vandalism. Ironically, the choices available to private property owners in Canada to protect their assets are extremely limited.
The case is being made to the Province and to major municipalities to modernize their legal and regulatory frameworks to permit greater flexibility for property owners to monitor, secure and protect their land, their employees and the various types of valuable merchandise they distribute.
Helping Sports Organizations Excel When It Matters Most
Competitive sports aren’t just fun and entertaining, they’re also run by businesses that from time-to-time have to navigate the hoops and hurdles of government. Pathway Group is often called upon by individual teams, leagues and governing sports organizations to help overcome red tape, make the case for hosting incentives for major events or negotiate lease arrangements for modern sports venues.
One memorable achievement for Pathway Group Partner, Jeff Bangs, was receiving the 2020 Gymnastics Ontario Special Recognition Award for helping develop the case to expedite the safe re-opening of gymnastics clubs across Ontario as society bounced back (pun intended, Jeff’s daughter was once a competitive trampolinist) from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fostering Food Security In An Uncertain World
Pathway professionals are working with the next generation of leaders in the aquaculture industry to modernize the way high quality fish protein is grown and brought to market. The challenges being faced by traditional aquaculture operations are being overcome by situating new growing operations in “closed” or self-contained bodies of clean water that don’t conflict with naturally occurring species or run the risk of contaminating downstream water sources. The environmental advantage of this new approach is further magnified by the selection of growing sites as close to major markets as possible thus reducing transportation costs and the industry’s overall carbon footprint.
Turning a Potentially Explosive Story into Good News
A major community organization had a serious public relations issue with the wholesale change of its administration. The new leadership came to Pathway for advice and assistance with navigating the media to ensure damage control and a fresh start.
Pathway was able to work with a major investigative reporter. He was willing to interview the new administration and to clarify that issues were being addressed, and that the new administration would be operating differently. A negative story that could have further damaged this organization was avoided and the good news of operational change was the outcome.
Pushing back on regulatory changes without notice or consultation
An international retailer of medical devices was blindsided by a regulatory change that greatly impacted their ability to do business and serve their customers. This change was implemented without prior notice or consultation. Pathway engaged with the Ministry of Health and the Office of the Premier to have them intervene and pause the proposed changes while we continued to consult with officials.
We worked to build a cross-sector coalition to develop a consensus on the best way forward. We used this consensus to develop a detailed plan that worked for the sector, while addressing the concerns that led to the proposed policy change in the first place.
Finally, we presented our consensus plan to officials and with a few minor modifications, this is expected to be the process moving forward. The result is that our client can continue to do business and invest in Ontario with confidence.
