ONVSP Awarded 2017 Victim Services Award of Distinction

Ontario Network of Victim Service Providers Receives Prestigious Award for Empowering the Resilience of Victims and Survivors of Crime

TORONTO, May 31, 2017 – During a ceremony at Queen’s Park today, the Ontario Network of Victim Service Providers (ONVSP) was honoured as a recipient of the 2017 Victim Services Award of Distinction. Presented by the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General, this award recognizes the exceptional achievements of dedicated professionals and volunteers in the field of victim services, as well as the important work of individual victims.

“Victims and their loved ones need help and support, but they don’t always know that it’s there for them” said Jade Harper, President of ONVSP. For over 15 years, the ONVSP has been promoting awareness and raising the profile of Victim Service providers across the province of Ontario. “If you can assist victims right away you’re starting them on a journey to recovery and resilience, potentially reducing further trauma which also prevents pressure on the system down the road.”

Through collaboration and support, ONVSP’s mission is to utilize the collective skills, experiences and knowledge of a vast range of Victim Services Professionals to preserve, promote and create more meaningful and supportive experiences for victims in Ontario. In turn, its member agencies offer support for victims across the province, who may suffer from various forms of trauma, physical injury, financial loss, emotional injury, and may not know where to turn for help.
